How To Fast Biblically

We are here to please the Lord.

How do we fast to please God?

A few things before get into the 3 main points.

Biblical fasting without prayer is just a diet.

Fasting afflicts the soul.

Fasting is abstaining from food, but is much more than that.

Going to share a few scriptures & ways to fast so the Lord is pleased according to the bible.

#1 Fasting that relies on God

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalms 46:10
When we fast it allows us to rely on God.

We may be weak in the flesh, but we can pray & ask the Lord for strength in the spirit.

This allows us to fast & rely on Him.

#2 Fasting that is private.

““Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Matthew 6:16-18

When we can fast to please God NOT men, it will allow His rewards to bless us.
The Lord looks at our heart.

It's time to fast from an intention to please the Lord above all.

#3 Fasting that from thoughts, old patterns like pride.

When we fast from old thoughts .. it allows us to break from specific patterns.

Thoughts of evil, jealousy, pride, ego, envy, & SO MUCH MORE.

We can't fast & exercise anger at the same time.
In Isaiah it makes it clear that if we fast with these evil thoughts, does it really glorify God & allow our fast to be pleasing to the Lord.

Now how should we prepare for a fast?

First you must pray for God on what to fast from & fast for, then Journal it before you start your fast.

3 things to do daily while you're fasting

#1 Pray
#2 Read His word
#3 Journal

Also, play worship music before, after or during your time with God.
