God's word is living and powerful.
It's sharper than any two-edged sword and can pierce to the division of soul and spirit. God's word discerns our heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
Here are 4 ways God's word can affect us:
#1 God's word makes us new
When we receive Jesus we become born again. Through His word we become a new creation.
"having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the
word of God which lives and abides forever" (1 Peter 1:23)
#2 God’s Word sanctifies and cleanses us
"that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word" (Ephesians 5:26)
Jesus cleanses us, sanctifies us, and makes us brand new by His word.
We are made pure because of the word Jesus spoke to us (John 15:3).
#3 God’s Word is a spiritual mirror
When we read God's word, it reads us.
"For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was" (James 1:23-24).
God's word is the only book that reads us back when we read it.
#4 God's Word produces faith
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
The more we hear God's word, the more our faith will increase.
