Why The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (Jeremiah 17)

Why is our heart deceitful above all things?

5 Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord. 6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:5-10)

Why is the heart desperately wicked?

We MUST be aligned with God.

Because our heart can steer us towards ungodly decisions.

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he...

7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. (Proverbs 23:7)

Where we put our trust... will dictate where our heart goes.

If we trust in man & make flesh our strength, our heart departs from God.

In order for our hearts to depart from God, we must put our trust in anything else BUT God.

Our lives change when we decide to fully trust God.

When we trust in the Lord, & our hope is in the Lord... we shall be covered by God.

We won't fear when heat comes.

We will not be anxious in the year of drought.

& we will not cease from yielding fruit.

Fear may try to attack, but we won't when we focus on Jesus.

Anxiety may try to come upon us, but it has no power when we focus on Jesus.

There will be no lack from yielding fruit when it's the Lord that continues to provide.

The weapon may be formed but it will NOT prosper!

We MUST trust in the Lord will ALL our heart, acknowledge Him in all our ways THEN He will direct our path. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Trust God with all your heart.

Don't always trust your heart... because it's deceitful above all things.

Trust God & may He work on you from the inside out.
