Are You Trading God’s Blessings For Your Temporary Pleasure?

When we abide in Jesus, God promises us the fruits of His Spirit. He promises us a spirit of love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Jesus says that He is the true vine and when we abide in him, we will bear much fruit (John 15:5).

But how many us trade the blessings God promised us for what will only temporarily satisfy us?

In Genesis 25, Jacob cooked a stew and Esau came in from the field asking for some stew, saying that he was weary. Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” So Esau swore to him his birthright, and sold it to Jacob for a little bit of bread and stew.

God lets us know in His Word that we will go through struggles, temptations, and have temporary pains in this world. But He calls us to hold fast to our faith and fight the good fight. God wants us to believe what He has in store for His children that love Him and abide in Him is better than the temporary pleasures of this world.

Let’s not be like Esau and trade what will temporarily satisfy us for what God promised will truly satisfy us for all of eternity, a pure relationship with Jesus Christ.
