Can they love like Jesus?
We loved because He first loved us.
God’s love is unconditional.
God’s love is sacrificial.
God’s love is selfless.
Love is NOT love. God is love.
We’re called to love the Lord God with all our heart, mind, & strength.
That love hit different, when they love like Jesus.
If they haven’t experienced God’s love, how can they love you like God?
Love gives.
Lust takes.
Love helps.
Lust hurts.
Love adds good things.
Lust takes good things.
We must discern the difference.
In John 21 Jesus appears to His disciples.
For context, Jesus already got crucified on the cross & resurrected on the 3rd day. He broke through the grave & conquered death, hell & the grave.
Jesus asks Peter 3 times “Do you love me?”
And Peter answers yes all 3 times.
Now Jesus uses a different Greek word of love when He asks Peter if he loves Him.
John 21:15 - Agape ⇒ Feed my lambs.
John 21:16 - Agape ⇒ Tend my sheep.
John 21:17 - Phileo ⇒ Feed my sheep.
After Jesus asks if we love Him… He will give us instructions after.
Your love for Christ shows through your obedience to follow His instructions.
He tells Peter to feed my lambs, tend my sheep & feed my sheep.
We are called to make sure we feed those that are spiritually babes.
Then watch, protect & continue to feed the adults (sheep).
God desires us to grow & mature as His children.
Now as we study the different types of love… there are 4.
#1 Storge - Affection.
This is the love we receive from our parents & to children. This is a love describing how you would love your family.
#2 Phileo - Friendship.
A love you have with your friends.
10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; (Romans 12:10)
#3 Eros - Marriage.
The love between a husband and wife. More of a romantic and intimate love between a marriage.
#4 Agape - Sacrificial.
This is God’s sacrificial, selfless and unconditional love.
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ (Matthew 22:37)
