God’s will is found in God’s word.
If you want to move in God’s will you must understand God’s word.
Jesus tells us to deny ourselves, pick up the cross & follow Him.
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. (Matthew 16:24)
God says ‘IF’ meaning we have a free will.
It’s ultimately up to us to ‘desire’ Jesus.
A desire to follow Him, obey Him, surrender to Him… to stir up a hunger and thirst first for Jesus.
You never know, you might be the only bible someone reads.
There is a saying “Out of 100 people, 1 will read the bible and 99 will read you”.
#1 Surrender
Let him deny himself is what Matthew 16:24 starts with.
You are denying your flesh.
You’re denying self.
The flesh wants to glorify self.
The spirit wants to glorify God.
My ability to deny myself is to say “God I trust you”.
I’m willing to let go of the addiction, I’m willing to let go of the lies that came from culture & this world.
#2 Take up that cross
What does this mean?
Jesus took up that cross which was a sacrifice.
Your cross is your sacrifice.
What are you willing to sacrifice? Everyone has their own cross, they have their own sacrifice.
If you ever want to build your own altars, it requires a sacrifice.
You’re either building godly altars or ungodly altars.
Altars are where covenants are activated.
#3 Follow Jesus
Once we’ve decided to surrender and sacrifice… we must choose to continue to let Jesus lead us.
We must follow Him.
Following Jesus is continuous obedience.
And sometimes we can’t get NEXT instruction if we don’t have NOW obedience.
If you love Jesus, you will obey His commandments (John 14:15)
May His ways guide us & lead us into all righteousness.
His plans are always better than ours.
Surrender
Sacrifice
Obedience
As we continue to study Matthew 16:24 we can sum it up with these 3 simple concepts.
You can also find this teaching in Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
Scripture interprets scripture.
May the Lord of glory continue to cover you under His righteous right hand.
Give it all to Jesus! & let the Holy Spirit fill you up.
You might have the Holy Spirit, but does the Holy Spirit have you?
God bless you.
