Exposing False Humility In The Body Of Christ

False Humility.

False Humility is an assignment of deception (tricked into believing something to be true), from the enemy against the disciple of Jesus Christ.

Where the enemy tries to trick the disciple of Jesus Christ into believing that they are operating in true humility in the sight of God, but in reality they are operating out of what we call false humility in the sight of God.

The reason false humility is an assignment of deception is because many people in the body of Christ may not know that they are operating out of this false humility. If we truly think about it, everyone wants to be known as humble, but no one wants to be known as fearful, insecure, and/or a people pleaser. So it is difficult for people to acknowledge that they may be dealing with this. But know this, once an issue is acknowledged then that is the first step to healthy growth in Christ Jesus! And healthy growth in Christ Jesus leads to being more like Him! :)

Down below we are going to go over a few lenses of where false humility may stem from. Of course, it is not black and white when it comes to the examples but those examples are to help give understanding, expose any assignments of the enemy, and to help overcome any wiles of the devil in Jesus’ name!

#1 False Humility Can Stem From Fear.

Examples:

  • A fear of overstepping God.

  • A fear of stepping out of God’s will.

  • A fear of not hearing from God correctly.

-All of these are very relevant fears in the body of Christ, but just because they are relevant doesn't make them valid. Of course, we don't want to overstep God, or step out of His will, or disobey Him. But that doesn't mean we should allow fear to hinder God’s will upon our lives and put us in bondage. Remember, God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7). Fear wants to disable us, but God wants us to walk by faith and not by sight. If God tells us to do something, we should do it because we know He knows what is best for us. And this is our assurance that He has plans to prosper us, to give us a future, a hope, and to never to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11). God will never lead us into destruction, but will always lead us onto the path of life.

And of course, if you’re really not sure you heard correctly from God you can always ask Him again. But never let an excuse of, “I’m not too sure" be a reason for why you didn't obey or doubted Him when you clearly had heard Him. That delayed obedience in some circumstances could possibly lead to disobedience.

And lastly, even if we happen to stumble because we happened to hear wrong, that’s okay. God knows our hearts. We just repent and allow the Lord to pick us right back up. Remember there is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk according to the spirit and not the flesh (Romans 8:1). It’s all a process. Embrace the process as you continue to grow in the Lord :)

#2 False Humility Can Stem From Insecurity.

Example:

  • Feeling insecure because you may believe that you are unqualified to do the assignment that God is calling you to do.

The truth is that man looks on the outward appearance but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). God is not concerned with accolades, accomplishments, titles, and/or qualifications. He is concerned with the heart. If God can use the foolish things of this world to confound the wise and the weak things of this world to put to shame those that are mighty (1 Corinthians 1:27), then He can use anybody and anything for His glory. Know this, that God qualifies the unqualified.

#3 False Humility Can Stem From the Fear of Man.

Example:

  • God is calling you to step out on faith and do something that may not be pleasing to man or may not look humble to man in your eyes so you ask yourself, “What will people think of me?” And you ponder on whether you should submit to man or to God.

At the end of the day people will always have things to say. Some things may look humble to man, but may not be to God. And on the other hand, some things may not look humble to man, but may be to God. This is where we have to ask the Holy Spirit to renew our minds on what true humility is. True humility has nothing to do with what people think, but everything to do with what God thinks. He embodies humility. He is the last and final say when it comes to what true humility is. So even if it makes no sense to the natural man, still do it anyway regardless of what the natural man thinks. Remember, that the natural man cannot receive the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14-16).

Ways to Overcome False Humility:

#1 Get into the word of God:

-Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Jesus is the word of God (John 1:1). In order to fight any lie you need the Truth. Therefore the word of God is the best way to overcome any deception or lie of the enemy because the word of God is the Truth and it is our sword in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17).

#2 Allow the Lord to Renew Your Mind (Romans 12:2) on What True Humility is:

-In the world people have humility mixed up. For instance, people in the world think that a lack of confidence is a form of humility but in reality it is false humility.

Let’s use an example from the bible:

The world would say that Saul was humble because he didn't want to take the call and was hiding, but when you test it against scripture it shows that Saul was not humble but insecure. And of course, when you look on the opposite spectrum people would say that David might have been cocky, but when it’s tested against scripture it shows that David was confident in the Lord because he had a relationship with the Lord. Once again this is where we as the body of Christ have to allow the Holy Spirit to renew our minds on what true humility is through the word of God and His teachings. The Holy Spirit will always guide us into all truth because He is the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13).

#3 Knowing Who You are in Christ:

-Knowing who we are in Christ is so essential in your walk with Jesus Christ. It leads to true confidence in the Lord to overcome any lies, schemes, or assignments of the enemy because we know whose we are. If God is for us no one can be against us (Romans 8:31).

If you happen to be dealing with the false humility stemming from insecurity, we encourage you to read and study the book of Ephesians from the bible. It will tell you who you are in Christ and the authority that you have through Jesus Christ. Once you have the true confidence of the Lord all that insecurity will melt away in Jesus’ name :)
