The Spirit of Pride and Self Righteousness Examined

David said,

"Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting."
(Psalm 139:23-24)

We should ask God to search our hearts and examine us.

Pride entered into Satan, who was an anointed angel found perfect and full of beauty and wisdom by God (Ezekiel 28:12). Yet, pride entered into him and it was his downfall.

If pride can enter into an angel that was perfect in all its ways before God, then we shouldn't be so hard-hearted to think we are immune to pride.

All sin starts and stems from pride. Job 41 shows that the spirit of pride is hard as scales and that nothing from God can enter into it (Job 41:15).

We ask God to search our hearts and examine us because we don't want God to stop pouring in His wisdom and beauty of the Spirit that can only be received through humility.

We are called to receive God's word with meekness because it is able to save our souls (James 1:21) and set us free (John 8:32).
