Music is a powerful ministry.
And the enemy will use music to try to influence us.
There's only two kingdoms.
The kingdom of the enemy & the kingdom of God.
The enemy will distort anything that was made from God.
God made music.
5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise
Than for a man to hear the song of fools. (Ecclesiastes 7:5)
18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, (Ephesians 5:18-19)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)
We sing & make melodies to the Lord in our hearts.
David was used to allow the distressing spirit to be removed from Saul.
Saul's disobedience & jealousy towards David allowed this tormenting spirit to come up on him.
And music was used to minister and allow king Saul to receive peace.
Here are 5 questions to ask yourself to see if you should be listening to this music.
#1 Does it glorify God
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
#2 Does it hinder your spiritual growth and does it feed your spirit?
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (1 Peter 2-4)
#3 Does it push me closer to God?
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:7-8)
#4 Does it edify Christ in me?
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
#5 How do they live?
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:15-20)
These are great questions to ask yourself as you are discerning music.
I pray you continue to be mindful of what enters your ears as they may try to influence your life.
Stay sharp in the spirit :)
In Jesus Name.
